A beautiful (and long) drive to Mendocino County

There are two rented vans to shuttle us about...the "ghetto" van with the large dent on the driver's side (it came that way) and the "pumpkin" van with its Halloween stickers on the windows. Today I opt to ride in the former with Chad, Beth, Evie, Linda and Nate. We are looking at a 700-800 mile drive, so we start at 7:30 AM.

Linda takes the first shift of driving through the continuing rain of Oregon along the Columbia and down I-5 to the California border

After driving through the snowline, we stop at a "vista point" to stretch our legs and take in the view of Mt. Shasta hidden in the clouds.

As Ben, Nate and Chad throw the football around,

a rainbow appears in the distance...the second we see in just a couple of days.

California hills are absolutely beautiful...not quite like Ohio.

all things oliveEach van stops here to stock up on essentials for the road. If you don't care for olives, the pickled garlic is exceptionally good.

After 14 hours of driving we arrive in Ukiah, California and collapse to sleep.
