The Dalles

Home sweet home for two nights, complete with a restaurant where everyone is your cousin, giant cows reside under signs of "pot roast", and the counter stools are milk cans. The Dalles is named for the French for "water over flat rocks" in the gorge of the Columbia River only a few hundred yards away.

That's Nate below the sign, trying to stay dry in the Oregon weather. Yes, it did rain just about every minute of the 36 hours we are there.

what a sign

There are also lifesize horses, oxen and a vintage steam engine tractor outside. Inside is a beautifu green John Deere tractor to examine while you eat your biscuits and gravy or any of the other "low-cholesterol" fare.

or could it be Zat Cajas?

For breakfast, Nate and I decide to sit at the counter on real milk cans with padded seat tops.

Service is quick and friendly; everyone wants to know what is "Rhythm in Shoes" when they see the jackets.
